Amir Netz is a Technical Fellow and chief architect of the Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) offerings. Amir is focused on the democratization of BI through end-user self-service enablement using Microsoft Office, SharePoint and SQL Server.
Amir is the leading world expert in BI and Business Analytics technology, holding over 40 patents. The products designed and developed by Amir have repeatedly defined the business analytics market. Some of his latest contributions include VertiPaq, the in-memory column-oriented data engine that at the foundation of the Microsoft BI stack, PowerPivot (a breakthrough self-service BI system for Excel, Power View) an interactive ad-hoc data visualization and exploration tool and now - Power BI for O365(see video below).

Amir joined Microsoft in 1997 with the acquisition of Panorama Software, where he served as a founder and VP of R&D. At Microsoft Amir has led the development of Analysis Services in SQL Server, and in 2006 broaden to a broad architectural leadership role in BI, Data Warehousing, Analytics and Big Data.
The special designation of Technical Fellow is Microsoft's acknowledgement of the key role a top technical leader plays in driving intentional innovation with broad industry impact. A Technical Fellow's technical vision, expertise and world-class leadership is commensurate with that of a corporate vice president focused on business leadership.
A Technical Fellow is the highest technical leadership rank at Microsoft and only 20 individuals (out of approximately 50,000 engineers) are designated as TFs.
